Wat Phra That Doi Wiang Chai Mongkhon, Chiang Mai Province
Enshrines a sacred chedi that is more than 735 years old and was once the camp of King Mangrai the Great. It is considered the first temple in Phrao District.
🙏There is a Lanna-style chapel with Luang Pho Setthi as the principal Buddha image. It is a Buddha image dressed in Lanna art, Chiang Saen, with three lions, in the posture of pleasing King Champubati, Buddhist art from the reign of King Tilokarat, 600 years old.
🙏There is a reclining Buddha, Maha Chakraphat Muni Si Doi Wiang, dressed in ancient Lanna art, measuring 3 meters wide, 23 meters long, and 10 meters high, or also known as the posture of pleasing Asura Indrahu. It is in a sideways position with both feet placed long and evenly overlapping each other, the left foot placed on top of the right foot, the right hand raised to support the head, and the left hand placed close to the body. The pillow is under the pillow in the same area.
🙏The sacred relics of Phra Mahathat Doi Wiang Chai Mongkhon are golden in color, covering the relics that contain the hair of the Lord Buddha. According to legend, when the Lord Buddha traveled to the Suvarnabhumi region of Lanna Thailand, the Lord Buddha traveled to Mon Doi Wiang with Phra Anan Thera. When the villagers heard the news, they came to make merit, offer alms, listen to the Dhamma, and take care of the Lord Buddha and Phra Anan every day. Before the Lord Buddha left the border of Phrao, the Lord Buddha gave the villagers a strand of his hair to pay homage and worship. He also made a prediction that this place would flourish and become a stronghold of Buddhism in the future.
