It is one of the most distinctive and unique tourist attractions in Chiang Rai Province. Designed and built by the famous Thai artist, Professor Chalermchai Kositpipat, this temple is a beautiful example of contemporary Thai architecture that perfectly combines the beauty of traditional art with new styles.
Highlights of Wat Rong Khun
- White Ubosot, outstanding with bright white and intricate stucco patterns, conveying the purity of the Buddha. The use of decorative mirrors reflects sunlight, creating an indescribable beauty.
- Ordination Bridge, a bridge that crosses the pond of hell to the Ubosot, symbolizing the transcendence of defilements and suffering to peace and brightness. In this area, there is a stucco figure of an outstretched hand, representing the suffering in hell.
- Buddha statue inside the Ubosot, decorated with murals that convey human struggles and what is happening in the world today, as well as various symbols that reflect modern events and ideas.
- Art Gallery, a collection of Professor Chalermchai's artworks, both beautiful and meaningful paintings and sculptures.
