Wat Pa Sak, Chiang Rai Province

Wat Pa Sak, Chiang Saen
An important ancient site in Chiang Saen, it has a pagoda that is still beautiful in the original style of art.
It was built during the reign of King Saen Phu to enshrine the relics of the right ankle bone, a relic of the Buddha, which was brought from Pataliputra by Phra Phutthakhosachan.
The pagoda is in the shape of a Lanna castle with 5 spires, combining Sukhothai, Pagan, and Hariphunchai arts. Around the pagoda on all 4 sides, there are Buddha images alternating with niches of gods. There is a stucco Buddha image in the world-opening pose. This niche-shaped building has 2 layers of niches, decorated with beautiful stucco patterns.
The main pagoda of Wat Pa Sak, Chiang Saen is the second oldest pagoda in Thailand.
