Wat Pa Sak, an ancient ruined temple in Chiang Saen

🛕 The temple is located outside the city walls of Chiang Saen on the west side. It was built in 1875, 4 years after the completion of the city walls of Chiang Saen, to enshrine the relics of the Buddha from the monks of the city of Pataliputra. 300 teak trees were planted around the temple and the monk who brought the relics was appointed as Phra Phutthakhosachan and enshrined in Wat Pa Sak. 🍀☘️

Important ancient sites of Wat Pa Sak include the main pagoda in the shape of a castle with 5 spires, combining Sukhothai, Bagan and Hariphunchai arts. Around the pagoda on all 4 sides, there is a stucco Buddha image in the world-opening posture. This type of pavilion has 2 layers of pavilions, decorated with stucco patterns of Garuda, Kinnari and floral patterns reflecting the influence of Chinese art, such as cloud patterns, glass patterns, lotus patterns with fillings, peony patterns and lotus petal patterns. 🪷
