Saruta Shrine and Atago Shrine in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture
𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃
Two shrines located near the Hanami River.
Atago Shrine was founded in 1232 by Takeishi Saburo Tanemori, the third son of Chiba Tsunetane.
After Chiba Tsunetane's wife died and was buried on top of the ancient tomb, Atago Shrine was built to mark the 33rd anniversary of Chiba Tsunetane's death.
A few minutes' walk from Atago Shrine is Saruta Shrine. The shrine's deity is a Koshin tower.
According to the Atago Shrine history sign, it was rebuilt in 2001. It was rebuilt in 2009, marking the 777th anniversary of its founding.
Even after the Takeishi clan died out, the place name remained and the shrine has been passed down by local people for generations.
The Hanamigawa River is nearby and offers beautiful views, so we recommend visiting there as well!
