Pay homage to the relics of the Lord Buddha at Wat Phra Borommathat Suea

#VisitSecondaryCities
🏘Wat Phra Borommathat Sawi was established in 1782. Inside the temple is a chedi. Legend has it that King Sri Dharmasokaraj led his army to Sawi District and a flock of crows landed on a pile of bricks, chirping and flapping their wings. Upon removing the bricks, they discovered the base of the chedi and the relics of the Lord Buddha.
🛕King Sri Dharmasokaraj then ordered the restoration of the chedi and named it Phra That Kawi Piak ("Vipik" in the Southern dialect means flapping its wings). The name was later corrupted to Phra That Sawi.
📚The temple was registered as an ancient monument in 2001.
Highlights of the temple include:
🛕The chedi, influenced by the Phra Mahathat Chedi in Nakhon Si Thammarat, is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. It features a square base, a surrounding niche, and a bell-shaped chedi decorated with gold mosaic tiles. There are also smaller chedis at each of the four corners.
🏚 Phra Suea Mueang Shrine: King Sri Dharmasokarat ordered the beheading of the city governor and soldiers in the volunteer army, who were then offered as offerings at the shrine, known as Phra Suea Mueang Shrine, to guard the Buddha's relics.

🎡Every year during the Songkran Festival, there is a procession to wrap the Phra That Sawi cloth.
