Experience Gangwon-do's Traditional Korean Set Meal at 'Gombae-ryeong'
It was back in 2020, when Jachudaejang was a supporter of Gangwon Wild Vegetable Rice. At the time, his main activities were promoting Gangwon Wild Vegetable Rice and creating innovative content. He collaborated with the Gangwon Agricultural Research and Extension Services and the Gangwon Provincial Office to promote 'Gangwon Wild Vegetable Rice.'

There are several restaurants serving Gangwon Wild Vegetable Rice in Chuncheon, Sokcho, and Yeongwol, but 'Gombae-ryeong' is located in Chuncheon. It's easy to find, located next to Chuncheon KBS and the Gangwon-do Tourism Information Center.

I received exceptional hospitality at Gombae-ryeong, which I'll briefly brag about on Trip Moment.

Gombae-ryeong Korean Cuisine
First of all, the prices are a bit high, perhaps because it's Korean cuisine. While the value-for-money restaurants I've introduced so far were around 15,000 won, the average price here is 20,000 won. It's a Korean cuisine, so that's inevitable.

The dish in the photo was the "Gombae-ryeong Special Meal." It was the most expensive course meal at a whopping 35,000 won. However, it's not a bad price for a Korean cuisine. Considering that a Korean restaurant in Pyeongchang-dong, Seoul, costs 80,000 won per person, and the Korean cuisine at Chodang Sundubu Street in Gangneung costs over 20,000 won, I think the most expensive dish at 35,000 won is quite reasonable. The lunch special is 13,000 won, and the semi-special is around 20,000 won, so I recommend trying it at least once.

Special Meal Menu: Appetizers
First, we had refreshing and appetizing dishes like five-colored pancakes, potato pancakes, japchae (stir-fried noodles with vegetables), and lotus root salad. What's unique about the potato pancakes is that they're usually made with ground potatoes, but they used shredded potatoes on top of potato starch, which kept them crispy even after a long time.

The wild vegetable lotus root salad (5th photo) was also exquisite. I contemplated asking the owner for the secret recipe, but it was so good. Apparently, it's made with fermented herbs, and the unique crunchy texture of the lotus root made it go down smoothly. I'm not going to lie, I could eat a whole bowl of rice with this. It was just right!

I remember they also served a bowl of noodles with ice cubes floating on top. As I chugged down the bowl, the refreshing dongchimi broth hit my uvula, esophagus, and stomach. Japchae and potato pancakes might be a bit too rich, but the lotus root salad and the buckwheat noodles in a bowl might make it even greasier! It's a total blockade!

Main Course
The main course featured grilled pollack, along with jeonbokjang (spicy abalone stew), grilled shrimp and flying fish roe, tteokgalbi (grilled short ribs with king oyster mushrooms), and bangyeokjuk (pork bone soup). It's a shame the Trip Moment photo limit is only nine photos. In any case, every dish in the main course was delicious. The grilled pollack, in particular, was personally grilled at Hwangtaedeokjang in Inje County. The outside was crispy and spicy, while the inside was moist and chewy. Grilled pollack requires meticulous control of the heat to prevent the seasoning from burning. If you're cooking pollack at a poorly-prepared restaurant, it's likely to be burnt, dry, and crumbly. However, Gombae-ryeong's grilled pollack had none of that. I highly recommend trying it. And what more could I say about the jeonbokjang? This is the most basic of all, so I'll stop here.

Main Dish #2: "Gangwon Wild Vegetable Rice"
I'm full after eating the appetizers and main course, but there's still more left. It's Gangwon Wild Vegetable Rice. The last photo, number 9, is of Gangwon Wild Vegetable Rice. It's made with medicinal herbs grown in Gangwon Province, such as Gondre, Gomchwi, and Eosuri. You can enjoy it with four types of sauces developed by Gangwon Province to suit your taste. As far as I can remember, the sauces included Gomchwi soy sauce and Eosuri gochujang sauce. They tasted slightly different from regular soy sauce and gochujang. Regardless, they were incredibly delicious. I'll definitely return on my next trip to Chuncheon. I highly recommend this restaurant to all readers.
