Sri Lanka's Red and White Mosque Recommendation

The Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque, also known as the Red and White Mosque or simply the Red Mosque, is one of the oldest mosques in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is located near the bustling Pettah Market, making it a prominent landmark in a busy area.

When visiting this solemn place, there is a dress code to follow. Visitors must avoid wearing revealing clothing or shorts. However, tourists can borrow appropriate attire for free from the mosque.

Visiting hours are specified, typically in the afternoon around 3 PM or 5 PM, but the exact timing may vary depending on the prayer schedule of the local community. During the visit, a mosque guide will accompany visitors, sharing stories and historical insights about the mosque.

The interior of the mosque is filled with unique Indian and Arab architectural features. We visited during sunset, and the sunlight streaming through the windows created a picturesque scene, perfect for photos. We were also fortunate enough to access the rooftop, where we could take close-up shots of the mosque's spires and domes—a truly unforgettable experience.
