Recommended niche attractions | Catholic church hidden in Dali Ancient Town

|A Catholic church hidden in the ancient city of Dali. The ancient towns of Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La, etc. are increasingly mixed with elements brought by modernization and external forces. However, if you take the time to look carefully, you can still find many interesting places, Dali Catholic Church is one of them.

Leaving the bustling main road, walk into the blue brick alley on the side, pass by a small tie-dye stall, and after a coffee shop, you will arrive at this Catholic church.

This church was built in 1939 and is included in the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units (No. 716). The church consists of a gate, passages, teaching buildings, courtyards and a chapel, and can accommodate more than 200 believers for worship at the same time.

You will find that it looks different from many churches in other places. This is because all the building materials used to make it are from local sources, and the craftsmanship is completely based on the Bai folk architectural art. For example, the Bai ethnic group’s “three drops of water” style gatehouse has eaves decorated with “M” shaped brackets.

It was four o'clock in the afternoon when I went there. There was no one in the yard, only the rustling sound of wind blowing through the leaves. The church door was closed, with a cardboard picture of Santa Claus on it. Well, it must be almost Christmas. I walked around the church and then sat on a bench at the door in a daze. I couldn’t help but say in my heart: It feels so good not to have to think about anything!

Address: No. 6, Xinmin Road, Ancient Town, Dali City (just locate "Dali Catholic Church" on the navigation)
