If you’re visiting Dali, the Three Pagodas (崇圣三塔) should be at the top of your list! This iconic site, set against the stunning Cangshan Mountains, offers breathtaking views, rich history, and a peaceful escape into nature. Here’s my ideal itinerary for a perfect visit:
Morning: A Grand Welcome
Arrive early to beat the crowds and enjoy the morning light illuminating the golden rooftops.
Start at the main pagoda, Qianxun Pagoda (千寻塔), standing at 69.6 meters—one of the tallest and oldest pagodas in China!
Explore the two smaller pagodas, symmetrically placed, creating a postcard-perfect view.
Midday: Exploring Chongsheng Temple
Walk through the vast Chongsheng Temple complex, filled with ancient halls, Buddha statues, and peaceful courtyards.
Stop by the Reflection Pond, where you can see the Three Pagodas mirrored perfectly in the water—one of the most famous photo spots!
Enjoy a local Dali-style lunch nearby, with must-try dishes like Er Kuai (饵块) rice cakes and Dali flower cake (鲜花饼).
Afternoon: Nature & Panoramic Views
Take a short hike up the Cangshan foothills for a panoramic view of Erhai Lake, the Three Pagodas, and the surrounding landscape.
Stroll through the ancient trees and serene gardens, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
If time allows, visit Dali Old Town, just a short ride away, for more cultural and historical experiences.
Tips for the Best Experience:
✔️ Visit early in the morning for fewer crowds and the best light for photos.
✔️ Wear comfortable shoes—there’s a lot of walking, and some paths are uphill.
✔️ Check the weather; a clear day gives the best reflection at the pond.
✔️ Don’t rush—take your time to appreciate the history, nature, and tranquility.
This was one of my favorite experiences in Dali, combining history, culture, and stunning landscapes.
