To Tibetan Buddhists, Namtso is much more than a lake—it is a sacred pilgrimage site. It is believed to be the dwelling place of powerful deities, and visiting the lake is thought to bring blessings and spiritual purification. Pilgrims walk around the lake in a ritual known as “kora”, which can take several days due to the lake’s large circumference and high altitude.
