As a travel blogger who has explored all over China, today I’ll take you to Hainan’s "Western Pearl" — Danzhou. It’s free from crowds but hides ancient salt fields, volcanic secrets, and coconut groves by the sea. You can enjoy it comfortably even on a budget!

📍Day 1: Dongpo Academy → Danzhou Ancient City (City Route)
Start from Nada Town, take the bus to Dongpo Academy (ticket ¥25). Su Dongpo was once exiled here; the courtyard is tranquil, perfect for a peaceful visit. Next door, stroll through Zhonghe Ancient Town’s old streets with stone pavements and century-old arcade buildings, full of local life. Recommended local snacks: milky rice porridge, Luoji zongzi (rice dumplings), only ¥5–8 per bowl, very affordable.

📍Day 2: Millennium Ancient Salt Fields → Longmen Surging Waves (Eman Town, 1.5 hours from city center)
A must-visit is the millennium-old salt fields (free entry), with over 4,000 basalt salt pans stretching along the coast. Salt has been sun-dried here for thousands of years, making for stunning photos. In the afternoon, drive to Longmen Surging Waves, where black reefs meet the mighty South China Sea waves, creating a magnificent scene. ⚠️Avoid pitfalls: no official parking lot, do not park randomly; strong winds and waves at the coast, do not swim!

📍Day 3: Shihua Water Cave Geological Park (40 minutes from city center)
Explore China’s southernmost limestone cave (ticket ¥68), with fantastical stalactites like a starry river and the rare “stone flower” phenomenon. Electric carts inside the park cost ¥15 to save energy. Nearby farmhouses serve white steamed buns and Danzhou rice wine, filling you up for about ¥40 per person.
