Zhuomalacuo, meaning "Fairy Pearl Lake" in Tibetan, is located at the foot of the Xiannairi Snow Peak in the Yading Scenic Area of Daocheng, Sichuan Province, at an altitude of 4,100 meters. The lake resembles a blue-green gem embedded in the mountains, with crystal-clear waters reflecting the majestic fir forests and the Xiannairi Snow Mountain, creating a serene and picturesque scene.
According to legend, Zhuomalacuo was formed from a pearl dropped by the goddess of Xiannairi Snow Mountain while she was dressing, which is why the lake glows with a sacred light throughout the year. Prayer flags flutter in the wind along the lakeshore, and the mani stones are inscribed with blessings, as Tibetan locals often circle the lake to pray, adding a profound religious atmosphere to this hidden sanctuary.
Starting from Chonggu Meadow, visitors can reach the lake by hiking about 1.5 kilometers along a wooden boardwalk. Along the way, you'll encounter alpine meadows, babbling streams, vibrant wildflowers in summer, and colorful forests in autumn, with each season offering unique scenery. Visitors should note that drones and swimming are prohibited in the area to protect its fragile ecosystem and sacred significance. Early morning or dusk, when sunlight gently illuminates the lake, is the best time to capture stunning reflections of the snow-capped mountains and the tranquil lake.
