[World Heritage Site: Yungang Grottoes]

The Yungang Grottoes, a World Heritage Site in Datong City, Shanxi Province, is one of China's three great caves (the others are the Mogao Grottoes and the Longmen Grottoes). The caves were carved over a period of about 30 years, from 460 to 494, before the Northern Wei Dynasty moved its capital to Xianyang, and the atmosphere has a somewhat Persian feel to it.

The Buddha statues are mainly arranged in a single statue at the front and two on the left and right. However, the walls are wonderful and hundreds of Buddhas are carved. There is also an antechamber in front of the main room, which is also gorgeous. Every time I entered the room, I put my hands together and felt the history of 1,500 years ago.
