The most accessible and popular place near Chengdu to experience snow and ride a cable car is Xiling Snow Mountain. Located about 95 kilometers west of Chengdu, it is the closest ski resort to the city and offers two different cable car rides with stunning views of the snowy mountain landscape. The winter season, when the mountain is covered in snow, typically runs from late November to late March.
The best time for skiing and snow activities is usually in January and February.
The cable car rides
First cable car (Yuanyangchi): This cableway runs from the foot of the mountain to the ski resort area at Yingxue Square. The ride takes about 20 minutes one-way and is considered a transportation cable car.
