Another year, another item checked off my bucket list ✅: Meili Snow Mountain! This time I finally saw the legendary sunlit golden mountain peaks, and instantly felt all the travel hardships were worth it~ Sharing my 3-day trekking itinerary, a healing snow mountain journey to plan✨
🏔 Highlights:
- Best spot to view the sunlit golden peaks: Wunongding Viewing Platform
- Easy trekking experience: Yubeng Village to Divine Waterfall route
- Tibetan Buddhist sacred site: Feilai Temple
- Pristine Tibetan village: Upper Yubeng Village
🚶♀️ Itinerary:
Day 1:
📍Wunongding Viewing Platform: This spot offers an incredibly wide view and is perfect for watching the sunlit golden peaks! Bring a folding chair and thermos, arrive by 5 AM (ticket 40 RMB)
📍Feilai Temple: Spin the prayer wheels clockwise three times for blessings, the red walls and white stupa make for great Tibetan-style photos (ticket 35 RMB)
Navigate directly to "Deqin County Feilai Temple Scenic Area"
Day 2:
📍Xidang Village to Yubeng Village trek: Ascend from 3000m to 3600m, about 6 hours (bring enough snacks!) Along the way, you’ll see colorful prayer flags fluttering at Nanzong Pass
📍Upper Yubeng Village: Stay overnight at a Tibetan family’s home, recommended "Gesang Meiduo Guesthouse," the owner’s butter tea is super authentic
Day 3:
📍Yubeng Village to Divine Waterfall trek: Round trip about 4 hours, along the way you’ll see mani stone piles draped with prayer flags, the endpoint is the sacred water waterfall of Kawagebo (remember to bring an empty bottle to collect holy water!)
📍On the way back: Don’t forget to have yak meat hotpot in Deqin County town, recommended "Snow Mountain Love Restaurant"
⚠️ Useful Tips:
1. Don’t underestimate altitude sickness! Take Rhodiola in advance, carry glucose during trekking
2. November to May is the best viewing season, remember to check the weather forecast
3. Use a telephoto lens to photograph the sunlit golden peaks, mobile phone users should bring a portable tripod
4. Yubeng Village can only be accessed by trekking or riding villagers’ off-road vehicles (200 RMB/person)
🍜 Must-try foods:
- Yak yogurt: topped with sugar and barley grains
- Matsutake mushroom stewed chicken: a seasonal delicacy during the rainy season
- Buttered tsampa: the local staple food
🏠 Accommodation suggestions:
To see the sunlit golden peaks, stay at Feilai Temple, recommended "View Paradise Hotel"; to experience Tibetan life, choose a guesthouse in Yubeng Village, but conditions are quite basic~
