| Half hiking, half chilling in a homestay... ❤Why we chose it:
Why Moganshan? It graced the cover of National Geographic📖! Why a homestay? This place is hailed as the birthplace of boutique homestays🏡.
Today, we’re sharing our extraordinary trip to Moganshan. This mountain is no ordinary destination—it was named one of "The 45 Places to Go in the World" by The New York Times and one of "15 Must-Visit Chinese Landmarks Besides the Great Wall" by CNN, making it internationally renowned!
We had limited time here—ideally, exploring the front and back mountains takes 2-3 days, but we spent just half a day hiking, marking our first encounter with Moganshan’s lush forests as a group of six[Heart][Heart][Heart]. The other half was spent unwinding at a homestay near Yucun Village, soaking in the mountain views and serene ambiance.
🗓Hiking itinerary:
🚗Driving from Yucun Square to Moganshan Visitor Center takes just minutes, but private cars are only allowed before 7 AM or after 5 PM. We parked at the base and took the shuttle up. With our spry 69-year-old guide (who’s never had COVID and hikes like a pro![Joyful]), we visited Mao Zedong’s former residence, Queen’s Hotel, Hua Hall, Xuguang Terrace, Wuling Village, Baiyun Hotel, and the Moganshan Conference Site. Due to time constraints, we skipped Dakan Scenic Area for Jianchi Pool instead.
🌟Homestay tips:
Moganshan is legendary for its homestays, so we booked one to experience it firsthand. The locations are unreal—some tucked into secluded mountain nooks like hidden utopias, others nestled by babbling streams for a lullaby of running water. Prices range from hundreds to tens of thousands per night (yes, spending thousands just for a night at Naked Castle is a thing!).
Here’s how to pick your perfect homestay👇
✅Prioritize parking: In mountainous areas, parking is a must for road-trippers.
✅Opt for a pool: A summer dip in an outdoor pool? Pure bliss!
✅Choose modern amenities: Humidity can be tricky—updated facilities elevate comfort.
✅Book early: Snag an affordable room where you can greet the moon through your window and step out to mountain vistas—that’s vacation mode.
📝Heads up:
⚠️Moganshan entry: ¥85/adult. Shuttle tickets aren’t round-trip—¥15/person uphill covers 7 scenic stops. Returning to Yucun after Jianchi requires another ¥15 ticket.
