The Dongguan Museum is a local comprehensive museum belonging to Dongguan City. It is located at No. 36 Xinfen Road, Dongguan City. It belongs to the Dongguan Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publication. The museum is a national second-level museum according to national ranking system.
Historical background and architectural characteristics
The predecessor of the Dongguan Museum is the Dongguan County Museum Library, which was completed in 1929 and is located in Dongguan People's Park.In 1959, the County Party Committee allocated funds to overhaul the old museum and established the Dongguan County Museum. In 1994, the new museum was built and opened to the public in Ke Shu Bo Square, Xinfen Road, Guancheng.The new museum covers an area of 2,700 square meters, with a construction area of 5,800 square meters and an exhibition area of 3,300 square meters.

The Dongguan City Museum has a collection of 18,956 cultural relics (sets), including 1,083 precious cultural relics (sets).Representative collections include the wooden coffin tomb of the Western Han Dynasty, the elephant Pagoda (stone Sutra) of Nanhan Town, the bronze bell of Zifu Temple in the Yuan Dynasty, the white glaze applique plum bottle of the Ming Dynasty, the paintings of Julian Juchao, and the cultural relics allocated by the Forbidden City.
In addition, the museum also has a large collection of works by famous calligraphers and painters and schools in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and modern times in Guangdong, especially Zhang Mu, Ju Lian, Juchao, Deng Bai, Lu Zishu, Lingnan School of Painting, Chinese Painting Research Association and other works.

At present, the new Museum of Dongguan City Museum is under construction, located in the central Square of Dongguan City, and it is expected to complete the exhibition and open the museum by the end of 2026. With the positioning of “based in Dongguan, radiating Lingnan, and facing the world”, the new museum will be built into an iconic cultural facility in a strong cultural city and a high-level museum in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
