Glossy Ibis Makes First Appearance in Tiaozini, 'Extinct' Bird Reappears in Wetland

Recently, migratory birds on their autumn migration have successively arrived at Tiaozini Wetland. The Nanjing Forestry University research team was pleasantly surprised to discover the Glossy Ibis, a national first-class protected animal, marking its first appearance in Tiaozini. The Glossy Ibis is the most mysterious member of the Ibis family. Its feathers, when refracted by sunlight, display an iridescent metallic sheen of purple, blue, and green, earning it the nickname "moving jewel." Adult individuals are about 60 centimeters long, and their slender beaks can precisely search for food such as mollusks and aquatic insects. It was once a "rare visitor" to China's wetlands, almost disappearing by the end of the last century. Now, tourists can visit Tiaozini Wetland to catch a glimpse of the Glossy Ibis, experience the beauty of the ecosystem, and come check it out!
