Can you imagine? In Zhejiang's Hengdian Film and Television City, there's actually an extinct volcano called "Bamian Mountain". Pingyan Cave Mansion is the best spot in Hengdian to view Bamian Mountain. Take advantage of the free admission and visit now!
Pingyan Cave Mansion Scenic Area, located in northern Hengdian Town, is renowned as the "No.1 Cave Heaven in Jiangnan" and a blessed Taoist cultivation site, with its main peak standing at 524 meters above sea level. It features Zhejiang Province's longest sightseeing cableway, stretching 1,310 meters with a one-way ride lasting about 22 minutes. The cable car offers spectacular views with wide vistas - we recommend trying the one-way ride if possible!
The recommended route is taking the cableway up and hiking down, making a loop that takes about 3.5 hours total. Route: Entrance → Cableway → Hundred-Step Ridge → Heavenly Master Hall → Jade Emperor Hall → Three-Layer Rock → Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea → Jinshi Pit → Xianyan Palace → Five Blessings Pavilion → Dragon Circle Cave → Four Sea Dragon Kings Hall → Fork road uphill to Thousand Buddha Pagoda → Take the trail near Pingyan Cave Mansion Cableway Upper Station downhill → Lotus Pavilion → Stone Drum Pavilion → Memorial Archway → Bao Gong Cultural Park exit!
There are three sightseeing walkways, with Xianyan Palace on the first walkway offering the best panoramic views of entire Hengdian. This was my first time seeing Bamian Mountain in person - its shape clearly reveals its volcanic origins. Opposite Pingyan Cave Mansion are the Ming-Qing Palace and Guangzhou Street scenic areas. The highest point is the seven-story Thousand Buddha Pagoda - you can climb to the top but the stairs are very narrow.
For those with good physical condition seeking a challenge, you can hike up via small trails. Descend via the trail beside the cableway!
