Fujairah — an Oriental-style retreat that stole my heart

It’s the most beautiful hotel I’ve experienced so far: spotless mosaics, palm-lined pools, bright Arabian lanterns, and food so good you plan your day around meal times.

A birthday detour to Dubai

The big-city contrast was perfect: a 90-minute drive over desert and mountain brought us from calm Fujairah to Dubai’s megamalls for celebratory shopping. Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. Sunset back at Miramar with toes in the ocean reminded us why we’d chosen the quieter coast for the rest of the week.
