A while ago, I visited Dukezong Ancient Town in Shangri-La, once a vital hub on the ancient Tea Horse Road. The town is free to enter, and its charming Tibetan-style buildings and quaint shops made for a leisurely stroll.
The Diqing Museum offered a comprehensive look at the history and culture of Diqing. Climbing Guishan Park provided panoramic views of the ancient town. The Big Buddha Temple, with its serene sounds and golden rooftop shining in the sun, was a peaceful retreat. Spinning the Prayer Wheel with others for blessings added to the experience.
Moving slowly, avoiding strenuous activities, and resting when tired were essential to prevent altitude sickness. Carrying an oxygen tank and avoiding bathing or hair washing on the first day were helpful tips. Dukezong Ancient Town's historical charm and cultural beauty left a lasting impression. I highly recommend exploring its unique allure.
