This time I finally checked in at the Dunhuang Ghost City that I had been longing for!
This mysterious place carved by wind and time is definitely worth adding to your must-see list in the northwest📸

The birth of the Devil City is the most stunning geological art exhibition on earth. It was once the shining pearl of ancient Lop Nur.

The sandstone and mudstone layers deposited at the bottom of the lake are stacked like a palette.
As the Himalayan orogeny uplifted, this body of water gradually dried up.
The exposed rock formations have been undergoing a "sculpting project" that has lasted for hundreds of thousands of years in the howling monsoon.

The Uyghur word for Yadan landform means "steep earthen mounds".
This formed the "medieval city" in front of us.

Legend has it that the caravan lost its way here, and the wind howled at night like ghosts crying, hence the name "Devil City"👻

180km/2.5h drive from the city (no public transport!)
