June is the best time to visit Dunhuang:
The temperature in Dunhuang is moderate (around 12℃~28℃), avoiding the summer crowds and catching the fragrant sand jujube flowers! The temperature difference is a bit large at the beginning of the month, so it is recommended to wear a light jacket in the morning and evening, and short sleeves at noon.
【Must-visit Attractions|A Stunning View of a Thousand Years】
1. Mogao Caves|The flying apsaras in the murals seem to "move"
2. Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring|A healing oasis in the desert
3. Yadan Devil City|An alien world sculpted by wind over hundreds of millions of years
4. Xuanquanzhi Site|A newly opened Han Dynasty "national post station"
Packing List🎒
⭐ Outfit: Long-sleeve T-shirt + light jacket + wide-leg pants (sand protection) + sports shoes (don’t wear white shoes!)
⭐ Essentials: Sunglasses 🕶 (wind and sand protection), gauze scarf (for photos + face cover), sunscreen (SPF50+), moisturizing spray (Dunhuang is very dry!)
Photo Tips📸
🌙 Mingsha Mountain: Wear a red/white long dress, run on the sand dunes for candid shots, avoid the strong midday light, the light is softest at 6 pm.
Hidden Food Delights
Donkey Meat Pizza (Tuo Ling Ge Restaurant 68 RMB): Thin crust topped with donkey meat bits, surprisingly delicious fusion of East and West!
Pao’er Yougao (5 RMB each): A crispy outside and soft inside dessert filled with rose and sesame paste, a must-try for girls~
Accommodation Suggestions🏨
1. City Hotels: Recommended to stay near Shazhou Night Market, such as Dunhuang International Hotel, a 10-minute walk to the night market, standard rooms 200-400 RMB/night, great value.
2. Desert Camping: For those who want to experience it, choose camping bases around Mingsha Mountain, including dinner and bonfire party, about 300 RMB per person, but note the large temperature difference between day and night.
How to Get to Dunhuang🛩️
✔️ Flight: Direct flight to Dunhuang Airport, 15 minutes by taxi to the city, about 30 RMB💴.
✔️ Train: Dunhuang Station has regular trains, suitable for transfers from Lanzhou and Xi’an, taxi from the station to the city costs 10 RMB🚞.
✔️ Self-driving: Take the G3011 Expressway, the Gobi scenery along the way is stunning, but note there are few service areas, fill up the tank in advance!
