Edfu Temple
Edfu is located about 112 kilometers north of Aswan. It was a city established during the Greek rule, known as the City of the Sun by the Greeks. It was once a religious and commercial center. The main attraction for tourists now is the Temple of Horus. This temple is not only the best-preserved temple in all of Egypt, but its scale is second only to the Karnak Temple in Luxor.
Built in 237 BC during the Ptolemaic Dynasty, the construction continued until the 1st century AD. Edfu represents the battleground between Horus of Lower Egypt and Seth of Upper Egypt. There have always been temples here, even from prehistoric times, when there were temples made of reeds.
The artwork in the temple is truly outstanding. It's hard to imagine what tools were used to complete this construction at that time!
