With the launch of direct flights from Datong to Ulaanbaatar, traveling to Mongolia has become much more convenient. The biggest highlights of visiting Ulaanbaatar are the delicious food, short travel distances, and stunning scenery. Among the attractions, Aryabal Temple, nestled in the mountains, stands out as particularly unique.
Aryabal Temple is a meditation temple located within Terelj National Park, about 80 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar. Upon reaching the summit, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the park and surrounding mountains.
🕘【Opening Hours】: Open all day
💴【Ticket Price】: 2,000 MNT (subject to change, please confirm on-site).
⛺【Activities】:
The temple is renowned for its mysterious "108 and 8" numerical design. From the base of the mountain to the temple entrance, there are 116 steps (108+8). Legend has it that reciting the mantra "Um Mani Badmi Hum" with each step can gradually absolve past sins.
The temple's fence is adorned with 108 small stupas and 8 religious offering symbols, along with 108 prayer wheels. Rotating these wheels clockwise is said to be equivalent to chanting the mantra multiple times, bringing good fortune and spiritual purification.
The name Aryabal originates from Sanskrit, meaning "Holder of the Lotus." On the eastern slope of the temple, colorful letters spelling "Maan," an abbreviation of Buddhist teachings, are engraved.
Surrounding the temple are aerial walkways, allowing visitors to stroll, take photos, and immerse themselves in nature. There is also a coffee shop at the foot of the mountain.
🚌【Transportation Tips】:
Aryabal Temple is located within Terelj National Park in Ulaanbaatar. Transportation in the city mainly involves taxis or private car rentals. It is recommended to rent a car to reach Terelj National Park. Summer (June-August) is the best season to visit, and remember to bring cash for ticket payments.
👉【Itinerary Suggestions】:
The best times to visit are early morning or dusk, when the light is soft and there are fewer visitors, making it ideal for meditation. The temple is close to Turtle Rock, and after reaching the summit, you can extend your exploration to the grasslands and canyon landscapes of Terelj National Park.
🧡【Preparation Tips】:
1. Wear comfortable hiking shoes, as the steps are steep and it takes about 15-20 minutes to reach the top.
2. Be prepared for possible rain in the mountains by bringing an umbrella and a jacket.
