The dome was built by Filippo Brunelleschi, a craftsman who was well versed in ancient Roman architecture. It is the largest brick dome ever built.

In 1982, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore was listed as a World Heritage Site as part of the Historic Centre of Florence. Today, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore has become a symbol of Florence and a must-visit attraction for tourists.
