Guangxi's Last Hidden Gem: Xiushui Scholar Village

Guangxi is home to many overlooked ancient villages, and Xiushui Scholar Village is one such place where beauty meets tranquility. Despite being a historically significant village in Guangxi, it remains relatively unknown due to limited transportation and promotion. No public vehicles pass through the area, so visitors must arrange private transportation.

"Xiushui Yao Scholar Village" was established during the Tang Dynasty's Kaiyuan era, making it over 1,300 years old. Xiushui boasts not only stunning natural scenery but also a rich cultural heritage, producing numerous talents over the centuries. Historical records show that out of 133 imperial examination scholars from Fuchuan listed in the county annals from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, 27 hailed from Xiushui Scholar Village. The village earned its title "Scholar Village" primarily because it was home to a top scholar, Mao Zizhi.

Nestled around Xiufeng Mountain, the village is traversed by crystal-clear streams, living up to its name "Xiushui" (beautiful water). Its ancient courtyards blend harmoniously with the picturesque Lingnan landscape, creating a serene and idyllic atmosphere. Walking through the long stone-paved alleys and deep courtyards with red bricks and black tiles, the village exudes a quiet charm. It lacks the bustling crowds and glittering allure of urban areas, but the sight of wisps of smoke rising from rooftops adds a touch of peaceful nostalgia. The village's strong scholarly tradition and well-preserved ancient architecture, including the Scholar Temple and the Scholar Sedan Chair, make it a place worth exploring and experiencing.
