Local Japanese food with a view of Lake Kawaguchiko

When visiting Lake Kawaguchiko, you want to try local food in a truly Japanese atmosphere and enjoy the beautiful lake view. Konami is a popular choice among tourists. The atmosphere here is nice, decorated in a truly Japanese style, and there are also boat rentals for fishermen.

🏠- Location / Atmosphere

Take the red sightseeing bus and get off at stop 13 (Azagawa Onsen Town), then cross the street and you'll arrive. If you drive, there is parking in front of the shop. Inside the shop, there is both a tatami mat area - low seats for sitting on antique cushions and a zone with high tables in a modern style (but still looking Japanese style). The highlight is the wide glass windows showing off the lake view. If the weather is good, you should be able to see Mount Fuji faintly.

➡️ Combo Meal Box with Tempura - is a tendon set served with miso soup, pickled vegetables, and dried seaweed sprinkled with sesame seeds. The tempura includes medium-sized shrimp and various vegetables. Deep-fried until crispy and hot

➡️ Combo Meal with Fried Pond Smelt – Wakasagi or small freshwater fish are local foods here. Served in thin breadcrumbs, deep-fried until crispy and eaten whole, served with lemon and cabbage.

➡️ Fried Trout – Since Yamanashi prefecture is not near the sea, the food here focuses mainly on freshwater fish. This menu is Yamame fish – a type of trout that can only grow in clean water. The restaurant orders it from Oshino Village, famous for its clear ponds.

➡️ Shingen Hoto Noodle in Pot – The most popular menu item in this area is Hoto Noodle. It is served at almost every restaurant. Houtou noodles are similar to udon noodles, but they are chewier and thicker because they have to be kneaded by hand. They are boiled in miso soup with 10 types of vegetables and served in a hot pot.
