Shizuoka's Lake Motosu: A Peaceful Lake Reflecting Mount Fuji

One of the most memorable spots during my trip to Shizuoka was **Lake Motosu (本栖湖, Motosu-ko)**. As one of the Fuji Five Lakes, it stood out for its exceptionally clear and deep waters, which gave it a strikingly vivid blue hue. On calm days, you can witness the breathtaking "upside-down Fuji" (Sakasa Fuji) reflection of Mount Fuji on the lake's surface, a scene so picturesque it feels like a painting.
The area around the lake was incredibly tranquil, with few tourists, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll amidst nature. The view at sunset, when the lake and Mount Fuji are bathed in a reddish glow, was particularly unforgettable. It felt as though the scenery from the back of the Japanese 1,000-yen bill had come to life right before my eyes.
Lake Motosu's crystal-clear waters make it an ideal spot for activities like kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). In summer, the area is popular for camping and picnicking. It's also a great destination for a quick drive-by visit.
If you have more time, consider exploring nearby Shoji Lake and Sai Lake as well. Comparing the unique charms of the Fuji Five Lakes adds another layer of enjoyment to the trip.
Lake Motosu is highly recommended for those seeking a serene retreat to appreciate Mount Fuji and the surrounding lake scenery. If you want to experience nature in its purest form, this is a must-visit destination.
