Lake Motosu, where Mount Fuji reflects most serenely.

Lake Motosu, the deepest and bluest of the Fuji Five Lakes, offered the most emotional moments during my trip to Shizuoka. Unlike crowded tourist spots, the surroundings were incredibly quiet, preserving the untouched beauty of nature.

One of the highlights here was the breathtaking view of the inverted reflection of Mount Fuji, known as "Sakasa Fuji," on the lake's surface. Visiting early in the morning when the wind was calm, I witnessed a perfectly mirrored image of Mount Fuji on the lake, resembling a watercolor painting. It was a truly moving experience, as if the scenery depicted on the back of the 1,000-yen bill had come to life right before my eyes.

Lake Motosu is also popular among campers and those enjoying activities like kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). The water is exceptionally clear and transparent, providing a refreshing and cool sensation even in summer. Nearby walking trails allow visitors to leisurely stroll while taking in the views of the lake, mountains, and forest all at once.

At sunset, the lake and Mount Fuji were bathed in orange hues, transforming the atmosphere entirely. The scenery changes with the time of day, making it a place where you’d want to linger for hours.

If you’re looking for a tranquil spot to gaze at Mount Fuji amidst nature, Lake Motosu is unparalleled. It was undoubtedly the highlight of my Shizuoka trip.
