General Yang Hucheng was born in Ganbei Village, Pucheng County, Shaanxi Province, and lived in Donghuaiyuan Lane in the county seat. This is a quaint, elegant, and unconventional residential house built in 1934 for his mother and family.
The building, divided into two courtyards, faces south and is divided into a gatehouse, a main hall, a women's hall, and a rear building. It covers an area of 1,250 square meters, with a construction area of 750 square meters. It is a traditional Guanzhong "four-way" building. The entire building is simple and elegant, with green bamboo and cypress trees, lattice windows, and exquisite relief carvings.
To commemorate Yang Hucheng, a "meritorious official throughout history," the Pucheng County People's Government designated this former residence as a key cultural relic protection site and established the "Yang Hucheng Memorial Hall" here, which was officially opened to the public on November 26, 1983. It is now a national key cultural relic protection site.
The warm temperate continental monsoon climate is characterized by changeable spring weather, hot and rainy summer, cool autumn breezes, and clear, cold, and dry winters. The four seasons are distinct and suitable for travel in all seasons.
The former residence displays handwritten scrolls and paintings that General Yang Hucheng and General Zhang Xueliang exchanged to encourage each other, as well as longevity screens given to Yang's mother by Chiang Kai-shek, Shao Lizi, Ma Hongkui and others. There are also documentary pictures of the "Xi'an Incident" and real objects such as daily necessities and combat weapons used by Yang Hucheng.
It is recommended to play for about 1 hour.
