Viewing Mount Fuji from Enoshima

🏯 A small island on the sea, Enoshima, where I encountered a shrine and Mount Fuji

After a long ride on the Enoden train from Tokyo, I arrived at Enoshima.
As the train approached, the sea came closer and closer,
and the island began to appear before my eyes.
Already, I felt a sense of calm washing over me.

⛩ Enoshima Shrine – A slow ascent through time

Upon entering Enoshima Island,
the first thing to greet you is the red torii gate.
Passing through this gate and climbing the steps to **Enoshima Shrine (江島神社)**,
it feels as though you’re stepping back into an ancient era.

The shrine is divided into three sections,
each dedicated to three goddesses deeply connected to the sea.
The dragon carvings scattered throughout, the gently swaying wind chimes,
and the ema (wooden plaques) with wishes written on them
seem to whisper something to you in the stillness.

As I lit incense and quietly clasped my hands together,
I felt the time of this place seep into me.
I closed my eyes for a moment and listened to the sound of the wind.

🗻 Mount Fuji, shimmering beyond the sea

After climbing up to the observation deck near the shrine,
Mount Fuji appeared in the distance.
A serene mountain capped with white snow, framed by a pink-hued sunset.
“Wow…” I couldn’t help but exclaim.

Its brief appearance through the clouds was so vivid,
it felt as though time had stopped for a moment.
Capturing it in a photo seemed insufficient;
seeing it with my own eyes felt far more real.

I sat there for a long time, simply gazing.
Saying nothing, just sharing the moment with Mount Fuji, the sea, and the wind.

🍡 Small shops near the shrine

On the way back, I stopped by a small shop near the shrine
and enjoyed warm dango and matcha.
Though the wind was chilly, the sweetness and slight bitterness
warmed my heart.

I bought a small Mount Fuji charm as a souvenir.
The words “Remember this view when your mind feels clouded”
suddenly came to mind.

🎐 Lessons from Enoshima

This trip didn’t have any special events or extravagant shopping,
but it left a profound impression.

The tranquility of the shrine,
the overwhelming peace of Mount Fuji,
and every moment I walked slowly and felt deeply.

Enoshima quietly gifted me a journey that will be remembered for a long time.
