✅ Time: December
✅ Location: Chureito Pagoda, Yamanashi Prefecture
✅ Experience: Viewing Mount Fuji from the iconic pagoda
🎯 1. The Journey
I started from Tokyo and took a train to Shimoyoshida Station (about 2 hours). From there, it was a 10-15 minute walk to Chureito Pagoda. Despite being December, the weather was quite pleasant, around 5-10°C, with gentle sunlight.
🚶♂️ The climb to the pagoda involved 397 steps, which was a bit of a challenge but absolutely worth it. I paused several times along the way to enjoy the fresh air and the view.
🌄 2. The Breathtaking Scenery
Upon reaching the top, the view of Mount Fuji was absolutely stunning. In December, the peak was covered in pure white snow, creating a majestic and serene sight. The five-story red pagoda against the snow-capped mountain made for an iconic and picturesque scene.
✨ Most memorable moment: Watching the sunset paint Mount Fuji in golden hues was truly mesmerizing and unforgettable.
📷 3. Photography Highlights
As a photographer, I couldn’t miss the chance to capture this spectacular scenery.
The best spot for photos is from the main viewing platform, where you can frame both the pagoda and Mount Fuji in one shot.
Although there were no cherry blossoms in December, the crisp, clear winter light made for sharp and vibrant photos.
☕ 4. Wrapping Up the Trip
After the visit, I stopped by a small café near Shimoyoshida Station for a hot coffee. Sitting there, gazing at Mount Fuji from afar, was a peaceful and fulfilling way to end the day.
🌿 Tips for Visiting in December
🧥 Clothing: Wear warm clothes and a scarf, as the wind at the top can be chilly.
📷 Best time for photos: Around 3:00 – 4:30 PM for the perfect sunset lighting.
🍵 Local treat: Try some hot local dishes at the small eateries near the station to warm up.
💙 Final thoughts:
Visiting Chureito Pagoda and seeing Mount Fuji in December was an incredibly serene and memorable experience. It’s a must-visit spot in Japan, especially for those who love photography and nature.
