On the second day of a 1-night, 2-day trip to Fukuoka, after completing a morning cycling tour around Itoshima, I headed to the first session of afternoon tea at 12 PM. The hotel offers three afternoon tea sessions at 12 PM, 2:30 PM, and 4:30 PM, before my return flight at 8 PM. To reach the venue, I arrived at Meinohama Station.
This area is a coastal village I visited seven years ago, located on the way to Nokonoshima. Thanks to a recommendation from Edicookie and a search on Jalan.net, I discovered this afternoon tea spot while planning my trip to Fukuoka, after previously enjoying afternoon tea in Kumamoto.
Finding a hidden gem that wasn’t widely advertised brought me great joy. I reserved the full afternoon tea set, which includes both sweets and savory items, for 3,850 yen. The hotel is a 20-minute walk from the station.
Although I would have taken a taxi if it rained, the weather was pleasant, so I leisurely walked the 2-kilometer distance with my suitcase. The hotel entrance felt like stepping into an amusement park. The swimming pool resembled the lazy river at Caribbean Bay.
I was guided to a window-side seat overlooking the pool, which had a jacuzzi at the far end. The ambiance felt like being at a resort hotel in Okinawa. The afternoon tea includes one drink, either coffee or tea. I chose black tea, with additional hot water available upon request.
The menu was diverse. The savory items featured a bacon chicken burger sandwich, a salad plate with salmon, cheese, and jamón, quiche, and scones served with clotted cream.
The sweets selection included five items, such as a fresh cream strawberry croissant, a macaron perched atop ice cream, and a seasonal fruit bowl, offering a rich and satisfying variety. The sunlight and shadows reflecting on the pool added to the beauty of the experience.
It was an exotic moment where I felt like I was in Hawaii or Okinawa while still in Fukuoka. The hotel itself also seemed impressive. By taking the 7-course route from Tenjin Station, you can discover a new side of Fukuoka beyond the usual spots. Thank you.
