Fukuoka is Kyushu's premier city, hosting numerous football matches, concerts, trade shows, and pop-up markets. If you happen to be on a long Japanese holiday, it can be quite pricey. Yasuragi Guesthouse - Next to Hakata Station
(安らぎＨakata駅前) is within walking distance of the station and offers excellent value. This weekend, beds were 9,000 yen, and single rooms at business hotels were over 20,000 yen. This guesthouse's single room was only 6,000 yen per night. The room is air-conditioned and has a ceiling-free, very cool feel. It's a bit like a room in an old boarding school! While there's no private bathroom, it's clean and practically decorated in a traditional Japanese style. There's also an automatic toilet and a light sensor. The owner is very friendly and helpful. This place is within walking distance of the long-distance bus terminal and Hakata Station. There are many convenience stores and a small Aeon supermarket nearby. I really enjoyed this place.
