Uminonakamichi Seaside Park 海の中道海濱公園

This is quite a large park located in the northern side of Fukuoka city. It takes just under 1 hour by subway from Hakata Station, toward Saitozaki station 西戶崎,with transit at Kashii. You should then get off at the 海の海公園station. This station will lead you directly into the park entrance within 2-3 minutes walk so it is more convenient than the Saitozaki station.

Entry ticket for adult is 450 yen while high school students and younger is free. The park is really huge and is situated on a peninsula, with the north and south side being the sea.

Once you have bought the ticket, go to the the bicycle rental and get the 3 hours (500yen) or one day (700yen) ticket. The park is so big that riding a bike is much faster and enjoyable. The bicycle lanes are wide and clearly marked. I can I may that it could be very hot in the summer so do bring your hat. There are even bicycles for 2 or children’s bikes. If you plan to see all parts of the park, including aquarium, zoo, flower park, and all the observatories, then the one day pass is better. However if you only want to see certain parts, then I think 3 hours is enough.

I went in early March, and the weather was around 15-20 degrees. only some parts of the flower garden had flowers. The rose garden was empty , and the flower hill didn’t have anything spectacular. I also went to the zoo, but it is really for children- with monkeys, some lazy kangaroo, sheep… along with a few other small animals.

It was a surprise to me that there were only two places with restaurants in such a big park. Therefore if you plan to stay long, it is better to bring some lunch.

I would recommend going to this park in the right month when the flowers are blooming - ie April/ May. Do check the website in advance.
