Located at the southern tip of Sri Lanka, the old town on the peninsula jutting into the Indian Ocean is a fortified city registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The architectural ensemble, combining European architecture from the 16th to 19th centuries with South Asian traditional styles, is regarded as a masterpiece among European-built fortifications in South Asia.
