Garze’s Magic

⛰️ As an outdoor novice who loves traveling, Jiamifeng was my very first serious hiking trip. Overall, Jiamifeng is quite good, but unfortunately, the guide we had was a bit poor, which made the whole trip rushed and the experience less enjoyable.
⛰️ Based on the entire experience, I’ve summarized the following ten tips. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, and I’ll answer them all!

❤️ Travel Tips
1️⃣ Must-have gear: hiking backpack, trekking poles, quick-dry shirt, quick-dry pants, sunglasses, warm jacket, headlamp, sun hat, sunscreen, power bank, snacks, cash
·
2️⃣ Optional gear to consider: camera, drone, tripod, headache medicine, motion sickness pills, raincoat, walkie-talkie (no signal in the mountains)
·
3️⃣ If hiring a guide: make sure to find a qualified one, preferably from a professional club with feedback and complaint channels. When choosing a club, check if the fee includes the "transfer vehicle"—I personally think this cost is necessary.
·
4️⃣ If traveling independently, be sure to contact the driver and accommodation in advance. Weekend lodging is tight, and transfer vehicles are hard to book (hotels in Guzan Town usually can help contact drivers and book accommodation). Prices are transparent and generally the same. If you get motion sickness easily, take medicine before heading up. The 1-hour gravel road is quite bumpy.

❤️ Day 1: Weifeng Route: Hiking Tips
5️⃣ On the first day, take the Weifeng route: rest first after reaching the mountain to acclimate to the altitude before setting off. There’s plenty of time, and altitude sickness on the way can be painful. The hiking route is clear and you return the same way. There’s a shaded spot midway where you can rest briefly.
·
6️⃣ Reaching the foot of Jiamifeng (at the wooden fence) is considered the endpoint. Of course, you can continue forward to the summit or explore the nearby cave, both great for photos. After taking plenty of pictures, return to base camp. Besides waiting for meals, there’s not much else to do.
·
7️⃣ After dinner, you can lightly pack for the next day—make sure it’s light. Then go shoot the starry sky; a tripod is recommended. If you don’t have one, use stones to elevate your camera for long exposure shots. The starry sky here is truly stunning!

❤️ Day 2: Ridge Route: Hiking Tips
8️⃣ On the second day, take the ridge route: it’s an uphill climb all the way. Don’t drink milk (it will make you vomit), and don’t carry too much. It’s best to start around 4 a.m. Just follow the crowd. The final push to the summit can be quite tough; if necessary, consider a 4WD vehicle.
·
9️⃣ When you reach the ridge, eat some bread to replenish energy. The ridge is perfect for drone aerial shots, so spend some extra time there. Wait until the sun is fully out and you’ve rested enough before heading down. For those without experience, this downhill path is quite challenging.
