Penang is a city of diversity where Chinese, Islamic, Indian, Malay, and British cultures coexist. Among them, the center of modern Penang is the Peranakan, a Chinese community. Peranakan refers to the descendants of Chinese immigrants who immigrated during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. You can clearly see the efforts to preserve Chinese culture and the natural blending of local culture.
The Peranakan Mansion is a luxurious house where a Peranakan family actually lived, decorated like a living history museum. It was interesting to see many practical changes that were made to suit the local culture while maintaining the foundation of Chinese culture in the structure and elements.
In particular, it was great that there was a free guide (English and Chinese) who explained the exhibits and Peranakan traditions in detail. It will be a great help in understanding Penang's culture.
And it is a fairly large and wealthy house, so it is fancy and good for taking pictures.
