The Beautiful Churches of Penang

The Church of the Assumption, located in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, is the oldest Roman Catholic church in the area. It was originally established in 1786, the same year the British landed in Penang. The current church building, completed in 1861, features a cruciform structure with two towering bell towers at the front, exuding a solemn and elegant appearance. From 1955 to 2003, it served as the cathedral of the Diocese of Penang. Adjacent to the church is the Penang Diocesan Museum, which showcases the history and artifacts of Catholicism in the region. Every year on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption is celebrated at the church, making it a significant landmark where faith and culture converge.
