Background
Glass Museum Penang (i-Box Glass Museum) is Malaysia’s first dedicated glass museum, located at 6, Jalan Burma, George Town, Penang. It’s run by i-Box Design Sdn Bhd, a local creative studio of glass artisans. The museum specializes in decorative glass arts—techniques like fused glass, sandblasting, stained glass overlay, and glass batik are on display.
Why It’s Worth Visiting
You’ll find more than just beautiful glasswork—there are immersive visual installations like the “Avenue of Stars,” mirror corridors, UV-lit fluorescing glass panels, trick-eye galleries, and large glass batik art pieces that stretch record lengths. Visitors can also participate in hands-on glass painting or create their own small glass souvenir, which makes the visit interactive. The museum is also a strong photo spot, especially for those who love colorful art, reflections, or Instagram-worthy visuals.
My Impression
Walking through the halls of the Glass Museum Penang, I was caught off-guard by how playful and sensory the experience was. The way light dances off glass, reflections in mirrors creating endless patterns, the smell of polished surfaces—it all felt magical. Creating my own painted glass souvenir was not just fun, but made the visit feel personal. By the end, I realised this is more than a museum—it’s a playground of color, craft, and light, and the kind of place that surprises you with beauty even in small details.
