CAFE PAULISTA

Ginza, Tokyo, December 2024
Wow, what an honour to visit this place. Albert Einstein visited Café Paulista in 1922, and John Lennon and Yoko Ono were regular visitors during the 1970s. It was also a gathering spot for some of Japan’s greatest literary minds, including Tatsuzō Ishikawa, Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, Shōtarō Ikenami, and Tanizaki Jun’ichirō, writers I’m eager to learn more about.

Opened in 1910, @cafe_paulista is widely regarded as the origin of all classic kissaten in Japan. While the current building dates back to 1970, it retains plenty of vintage charm, with leather booths, chandeliers, and a timeless atmosphere.
