Guangzhou Renwei Temple, located in front of Renwei Temple Street, Longjin West Road, Guangzhou, in the old Pantang Township, is a temple dedicated to the Taoist Zhenwu Emperor.
It was the oldest and largest temple in the 18 townships of Enzhou, Pantang at that time. Historical records show that Renwei Temple was built in the fourth year of Huangyou in the Song Dynasty (1052). Large-scale construction was carried out in the second year of Tianqi in the Ming Dynasty (1622), during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795) and the Tongzhi period (1862-1874).
When Renwei Temple was first built, it was called Beidi Temple. It is said that because Zhenwu Emperor was in charge of water, people called him Beidi or Water God. And because Zhenwu Xuantian Emperor in the north was known for his "divine power", it was later renamed Renwei Temple. The plane of Renwei Temple is slightly trapezoidal, facing north and south, with three wide roads and five deep entrances, and a row of bungalows to the east. There is a granite column on each side of the gate, with a stone lion carved on the capital, and auspicious clouds and two dragons playing with pearls carved on the column body. The lines are smooth and the image is very vivid. It is a very famous tourist attraction in Liwan District, Guangzhou.
Renwei Temple is free to visit, and the opening hours are 8:00-17:00. Remember to check in.
Address: No. 35, Enzhouzhi Street, Liwan District, Guangzhou
