After arriving in Guangzhou, my first stop was the Sacred Heart Cathedral, which stands in the midst of a busy city. As you approach this Gothic building known as the "Stone Chamber Cathedral of the Sacred Heart" and look up at its towering twin spires, you will be filled with awe. The church's exterior walls are made of granite, emitting a solemn glow in the sun. Pushing open the heavy wooden door, the stained glass inside allows light and shadow to dance in the quiet space, as if time has stopped here. When the noon bell rang, I sat quietly on the bench, closed my eyes and felt this rare peace and sacredness. The existence of the Sacred Heart Cathedral is not only a witness to Guangzhou’s history, but also a pure land in the hearts of urbanites. The collision between this Gothic building and the modern city creates a dialogue about time and faith.
