Recommended architectural and cultural hotspots in Guangzhou

Guangzhou is definitely a city that blends history and trends, whether it’s a classic old street or a photo-taking hotspot, it’s perfect for a slow walk. This time I recommend the route, the transportation is super convenient, all the attractions are in the city, within 15 minutes walk, there are well-known pedestrian streets, landmark-level churches, trendy shops and literary and artistic museums, suitable for you who like city scenery and shopping.

Itinerary: Beijing Road Pedestrian Street → Sacred Heart Cathedral → Guangdong Customs Museum → Postal Museum → Dongshankou

Beijing Road Pedestrian Street (Beijing Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, open all day throughout the year)
As a very famous commercial pedestrian street in Guangzhou, Beijing Road is definitely a must-visit photo spot for beginners. In addition to all the famous shops, restaurants, gourmet snacks, you can also see revitalized monuments (such as the Millennium Ancient Road Exhibition Area) to deeply feel the blend of old and new in the city. Recommended to come in the morning, crowded on weekends. In addition, Beijing Road is close to the subway station, making it very convenient to get around.

Sacred Heart Cathedral, Guangzhou (No. 56, Yide Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, opening hours: Monday 09:00-11:00, 15:00-17:00; Tuesday-Friday 09:00-11:30, 13:00-14:30; Saturday 13:00-14:30)
After walking on Beijing Road, it is recommended to walk to the Sacred Heart Cathedral. It has a European Gothic style of architecture, is very grand and imposing, and is a popular photo spot for locals and tourists alike. Photo recommendation: The church exterior is close, the roof glass stained windows are particularly beautiful in the sun! Note that the church is only open for certain times, and it is best to check the opening hours before visiting.

Guangdong Customs Museum (No. 29, Yanjiang West Road, Lingnan Street, Liwan District, Guangzhou, Saturday and Sunday 09:00-16:00, last admission 15:30)
This is a good place for hipsters or those who want to learn about the modern history of Guangzhou. Renovated from the original customs building, many historical details have been preserved, with exhibits including Guangzhou’s foreign trade development and Lingnan’s regional characteristics. Photo spots in the museum: The retro lobby and main building exterior are more atmospheric at night with the lighting, but be aware that open days are mainly on weekends.

Postal Museum (43 Yanjiang West Road)
A few minutes walk from Canton Customs to the Postal Museum, the exhibition features a variety of exhibitions showcasing old Guangzhou and the development of the postal industry. The building itself is a representative of the modern architectural history of Guangzhou, which is suitable for photo-taking exteriors and retro mailboxes. There will be temporary exhibitions and events on site that are worth a look.

Trendy landmark – Dongshankou (near Zhongshan 1st Road, open all day all year round)
Finally, I recommend going to Dongshankou! This has recently developed into a trendy hipster new zone, gathering a large number of specialty cafes, design shops, independent brand clothes and shoes, especially suitable for friends who like to hunt and take pictures. There are many Republican-style houses on both sides of the street. It's super beautiful to take pictures. It is recommended to reserve time to walk slowly and feel this modern and nostalgic atmosphere.

Practical Tips:
1) The whole journey can be walked along the subway, it is recommended to take the subway, convenient to walk and not afraid of traffic jams.
2) It is recommended to go on weekdays, not too crowded, some museums are only open on weekends, to pay special attention to the open days.
3) There are many specialty snack bars near Beijing Road and Dongshan Pass, it is recommended to come and try them on an empty stomach.
4) Church visits need to pay more attention to opening hours, different weeks have different times.
5) Check-in recommendations: Beijing Road "Millennium Ancient Road", Sacred Heart Cathedral main facade, Guangdong Customs Hall, Dongshankou characteristic Western-style building.
