Longhushan Welcomes the Chinese Merganser for Wintering

On October 22, the nationally first-class protected animal, the Chinese Merganser, arrived at the Shawan section of the Luxi River in Shangqing Town, Longhushan Scenic Area, Yingtan City, to spend the winter. This marks the 19th consecutive year they have chosen this location for wintering. That morning, forest ranger Xiao Dongyang discovered three adult male Chinese Mergansers leisurely resting in the water during his patrol. They were either preening their feathers or catching small fish, living harmoniously with the local spot-billed duck population. Known as the "Giant Panda of Birds," the Chinese Merganser has very high habitat requirements and serves as an important indicator species for water quality. Since their first appearance in Longhushan Scenic Area in 2007, strict protection measures have been implemented locally, with protected zones established to provide a high-quality habitat for these rare migratory birds. Today, in addition to the Chinese Merganser, many other rare bird species also come here to live and breed. Visitors can come to Longhushan Scenic Area to witness these rare birds and experience the harmony and beauty of nature. Come to Longhushan and spend a warm winter with the Chinese Merganser!
