Back from Guiyang, I really don’t recommend going in August. Let me tell you some hard truths!

1️⃣ Weather warning

☔ Current situation: alternating heavy rain and muggy heat in August, feels like 35℃+

💔 Painful experiences:

• Monkeys at Qianling Mountain snatching food (even umbrellas were taken)

• Slippery stone roads in Qingyan Ancient Town (watch out for falls)

• Huaxi Yelang Valley temporarily closed (water level rising)

2️⃣ Accommodation pitfalls

🏨 Current status: Huaguoyuan homestays have doubled in price and are still hard to book

⚠️ Avoid these:

• Waiting 20 minutes for elevators in high-rise apartments

• Night market noise downstairs until early morning

• Severe bathroom odors (yuck)

3️⃣ Food disappointments

🍜 Chaos:

• Silk rolls 15 yuan/serving (only 8 yuan last year)

• Sour soup fish 80 yuan per person (fish slices paper-thin)

• Changwang noodles with 1-hour wait (taste worse than street stalls)

4️⃣ Traffic collapse

🚌 Tested:

• Subway packed to suffocation during morning rush hour

• Taxis don’t use meters (3 km costs 40 yuan)

• Bus intervals half an hour

💡 Survival tips (if you must come):

✔️ Visit Guizhou Provincial Museum exhibitions (great air conditioning)

✔️ Stroll Jiaxiu Pavilion at 6 AM (only time with few people)

✔️ Eat alley beef noodles with locals (8 yuan/bowl)

💰 Real expenses:

Accommodation 600 + Transport 200 + Food 400 = 1200 yuan (3 days 2 nights)

💔 Better recommendation: go to Liupanshui at the same time (10℃ cooler, 30% cheaper)
