The biggest surprise this National Day is putting the "world-class tide" and "non-stop music" into the same holiday in Yanguan Ancient City - the City of Tide and Music.
As a local from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, in previous years National Day meant either being stuck on the highway or seeing crowds at tourist spots. It wasn’t until I discovered this hidden gem of a vacation spot that I realized how wonderful it is to "slow down" during a holiday.
Check the tide table in advance. During National Day from October 5 to 13, the tide is the biggest of the year. You don’t have to squeeze into the peak of the Tide Watching Festival, yet you can see a more leisurely and magnificent scene.
From October 6 to 9, there is also a night tide music concert. Moonlight shines on the river, and the tide rises and falls to the rhythm of jazz or rock.
Since you want to "slow life," staying comfortably is key. After comparing several hotels, I finally chose one under Yanguan Ancient City - the City of Tide and Music. Just the "free ticket delivery" alone was very attractive.
We stayed at Xuandemen Hotel, a century-old Zhu family residence converted hotel, surrounded by water on three sides. Opening the window reveals the scenery of a Jiangnan garden.
The breakfast, both Chinese and Western, was very rich. Even more thoughtful, the sightseeing shuttle inside the scenic area is free, and luggage can be checked in for free. No need to carry big bags looking for attractions, which is very family-friendly for those with kids and elderly.
If you want to experience cultural activities occasionally, you can play the immersive script murder game "Tide and Music Contest," or visit the former residence of Wang Guowei and Jin Yong Academy, all without extra cost. It feels like you’ve experienced the essence of Yanguan.
If you want to be closer to the tide, the Lead Singer Music Resort Hotel is a better choice—the infinity pool faces the Qiantang River. In the afternoon, soaking in the pool, you can watch the tide slowly flow by.
The room decoration is very stylish. The AI air suspension mattress in the electronic music king-size bed room feels like lying on clouds, instantly relaxing your tired body after a day.
The Music Home Museum in the hotel is one of only three official Austrian IPs worldwide. Taking kids to learn about the history of musical instruments is much more interesting than visiting ordinary museums. There are five special music performances every day. Sitting in the hotel courtyard listening to songs and watching the moon slowly rise, the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere is fully enhanced.
If you also want to avoid crowds and find a vacation spot where you can "stay," Yanguan Ancient City - the City of Tide and Music is really worth a try.
