It is said that the Orthodox Church of Christ was built in 1860 as the first Orthodox Church in Japan.

It started out as an affiliated church of the Russian Consulate, and later became the church that stands at the birthplace of the Orthodox Church of Christ in Japan.

It is now a national important cultural property, so be sure to visit it when you are sightseeing in Hakodate.

There are many churches in this area, so take a leisurely walk around.
